Life Wise
Important Information
Life Wise is a program is a new initiative which has been developed to increase the life skills with young people who are currently in Banksia Hill Detention Centre to increase the likelihood of them being able to successfully live independently upon release. Through maintaining independant accommodation the young people are more likely to engage in education, training and the workforce and less likely to continue in criminal behaviours.
The young people will complete learning units on topics such as such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, household duties and personal hygiene in small groups through a variety of practical of interactive activities.
It is anticipated that upon completion of all of the units and when nearing their release dates the young people will be referred to the Housing Support Worker - Corrective Services for further assistance.
Accessing This Service
The Life Wise program is available to young people who are currently detained in Banksia Hill Detention Centre and referrals can be made by the individual's Youth Justice Officer.
Community Support
The Life Wise program recieves support from Strategic Crime Prevention - Community Crime Prevention Fund.
