Youth Connections
Important Information
Youth Connections provides a safety net for young people who have disengaged from education, or are at risk disengaging, through the provision of tailored case management, mentoring, and alternative education.
The aim of Youth Connections is to support young people to re-connect with education or training and build resilience, skills and attributes that promote positive life choices and wellbeing
Youth Connections is a program for young people aged 13-19 years who are at risk of not making a successful transition through school and from school to further education, training or work.
Youth Workers meet with young people either at our office, school or at a place that is convenient to them in order to support and assist them to achieve their goals.
Accessing This Service
The Youth Connections program can be accessed by any young person that meets the criteria for any of the specific levels. This criteria is as follows
General Criteria
Young people must be;
- Aged 13- 19
- Be an Australian citizen, Permanent resident or on a Humanitarian Visa
- Not currently in full time employment
Individual Support Services
Connection Level 1
- This service is for young people who are still attending school, however are showing signs of disengaging from their education. Connection Level 1 services offer one-to-one engagement support and group workshops in motivation, resilience, building positive relationships, communication, health, safety and reestablishing involvement in school.
Requests for workshops to be run at particular schools can be made by phoning Youth Futures WA (08) 9300 2677, Monday to Friday (8.30am - 4.30pm)
Connections Level 2
This service is for young people who are:
- At imminent risk of disengaging from education or have recently disengaged;
- Severely disengaged from education, training or work, family and the community;
- Experiencing multiple barriers or complex personal requirements that are excluding them from successfully reengaging in education or training.
Connection Level 3
- This service aims to engage with young people who are severely disengaged from education and the community, to provide them with the opportunity to be involved in youth-focused activities and outreach services linking them positively into the community.
All referrals can be made by phoning Youth Futures WA (08) 9300 2677, Monday to Friday (8.30am – 4.30pm)
Ineligibility
- They have completed Year 12 or equivalent
- They are participating in employment (more than 15 hours per week)
- They are undertaking tertiary studies
- They do not have significant barriers to successful transition or reengagement into education or training.
